Captchas

Puzzles people solve in a second and bots get lost in.

Most captchas ask people to do a bot's job: label the traffic lights, find the buses. These are built on things people's eyes do without trying, and none of them can be solved from a screenshot.

What's in the box

  • Bigfoot at Dusk: a runner crosses a meadow and leaves no trail. Draw the route from memory so they reach the fence before Bigfoot does.
  • Firefly in the Field: the same idea at night. Trace the firefly's path so the net can find it.
  • Kinetic Word: a word written in motion, not pixels. No single frame has any letters in it, but a person reads it at once. Type what you see.
  • Odd Walker Out: four clouds of dots, each hiding a walking figure. Point an arrow the way each one faces.

Drawing and typing are scored too: how a hand moves is the second layer of evidence.

Each one is a Captcha obstacle you can drop into any gym routine, so captchas only show up for traffic your rules already find suspicious.

Know who's solving them

Every answer is timed. The captcha page charts solve rates and answer times per captcha, so you can see the difference between a person, a script guessing at random, and a farm handing puzzles to someone else to solve.

Write your own

Captchas sit on a small framework: a class for the puzzle and a view for how it looks. Ship yours as its own add-on.
